ISLAMABAD, June 1: Top seed Aqeel Khan cruised into the semi-final of the Vigo Champ Subh-e-nau National tennis championship at the Islamabad Club on Friday.

Aqeel, looking in great form, outplayed his opponent Ahmed Chaudhry who could not offer much resistance in the lopsided contest.

Aqeel will now meet Usman Ijaz in the semi-final.

Usman was lucky to have a walkover against Heera Ashiq who abruptly left for Lahore due to his exams.

Third seed Mohammad Abid also qualified for men’s singles semi-final after beating Sanaullah Khan.

Sanaullah showed some resistance in the first set but could not maintain his form and conceded the match in straight sets.

Abid will meet now meet Abid Ali Akbar in the second semi-final.

Abid Akbar had an easy victory over veteran Asim Shafique.

The men’s singles semi-finals will be played under lights at 7:00pm on Saturday.
