THIS is with reference to the news item, ‘Young maid accuses lawyer of gang-rape’ (May 25) in which the name of the suspect has been withheld to protect the identity of the accused lawyer who is a member of the Karachi Bar, a powerful and vocal body.

But, on the other hand, under the news item there is another one titled ‘Militants remanded in prison’ (May 25) in which the identity of three suspects, Sikandar Ali, Sajid Ali and Mohammad Anwar, have been printed in full as if they have already been convicted and condemned. Isn’t this double standard?

It would have been better if the news item said, “The statements of the accused in FIR 95/12 have been recorded in the court of judicial magistrate.”
