KARACHI: Pakistan lost to Great Britain in their last match of the Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia to finish last in the seven-nation tournament.
Pakistan, who were the losing finalists in last year's tournament, surrendered their lead in yet another match as Great Britain won 2-1.
The Greenshirts scored first through Abdul Haseem Khan in the 15th minute but gave away the lead as Great Britain's Barry Middleton equalised in the 47th minute.
Ashley Jackson doubled the lead for Great Britain minutes before full time as Pakistan cemented the last berth.
Previously, Pakistan lost to Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia and India and only recorded one win in their opening match against Argentina.

Political interference in selection on merit is decaying every department/ section in Pakistan and Hockey team is no exception.

Disappointed with Dawn. When there is so much coverage and debate for even IPL, i did not find a single item on India's Vishwanathan Anand being crowned the world chess champion for a fifth time this week. Pakistani media is very biased and don't want to show anything good or super from India i suppose. Ignoring world No.1 chess is unbelievable.

A defeated mindset will lead to defeat in every walk of life. This is what has become the story of our Pakistan. Nobody cares about burning the midnight oil which is required to get the results we expect, rather its all about shortcuts and political expediency in all matters.

Dear its not the fault of Dawn. People here in Pakistan are not that much into 'chess' otherwise they would have mentioned it. Anyways, congrats to V Anand as he has proven that Desi people can also play chess:-)

besides decling in everything, nowitis theturn of hockey. pm of the country is the chief of the hockey, and sack all the phf officials. very bad and poor planning before olympics. qasim should resign and rest of the gang should be fired. for the time being phf affairs should be run by a new management.islah/shahnaz/sami/manzoor sr. and manzoor jr. can help even in this short period of few months before olympic. good luck. azlan shah cup is humiliating and insulting.

Dawn is not a mean spirited newspaper. I think Chess is not followed in Pakistan that much.
