KARACHI, Jun. 1: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan signed an ordinance on Friday to upgrade the Sindh Medical College to a medical university. The new university is named as Sindh Medical University.The ordinance was signed at the Bilawal House in the presence of President Asif Ali Zardari.

The SMC becomes a third medical university in Karachi. The upgrade of the SMC would help provide better opportunities to medical graduates in acquiring higher qualifications.

Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed, provincial ministers, secretary general to President Salman Farooqui, the president of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America, Dr Javed Suleman, and other senior government officials were present on the occasion.
