LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf has termed his tour of India successful and expressed the hope that soon good news will be heard about resumption of bilateral series between Pakistan and India.

In a brief talk with media at the airport here on Saturday where he landed after his visit to India, Zaka said he would soon share details of his tour with media in a news conference.

“The bilateral series between India and Pakistan will resume soon as my tour of India remained successful,” declared the PCB chief who went to India on invitation of the BCCI to watch the IPL final.

Zaka held meetings with BCCI officials and other political persons in order to resume the series.

To a question about poor performance of the national team under the captaincy of Mohammad Hafeez, the PCB chairman defended his decision of appointing the all-rounder as captain and expressed the hope that the young team would give better performance in the next match.

He said that a good number of new players were inducted into the Twenty20 team that would soon get more international exposure.

The PCB chief avoided answering a question about demolishing of Gaddafi Stadium’s wall, saying: “I don’t know about details of the activity since I was in India. Let me find out the facts.”

Earlier this week, the local government razed the walls of the Gaddafi Stadium, which were being constructed as security measures for foreign teams.

Later, the PCB moved the Lahore High Court which through an interim order allowed the Pakistan Cricket Board to reconstruct the walls at its own risk and cost and asked both the parties to appear before the court on June 5.

However, the local government again razed the walls on Saturday.

All these acts on the part of local government are seen as politically motivated.
