I AM a farmer and grow mangoes and sugarcane in Maza Eissenwala, Kot Addu tehsil, Muzaffargarh. Crops of mangoes and sugarcane need frequent watering for growth. But the irrigation canal is dry for the last so many days and there is no electricity to run tube-wells. The only source available is water through diesel pumps which is more than Rs100 per litre.
It is an expensive way to water. Farmers in this area are facing hardships because of this situation. If the situation continues, the agriculture sector would not be able to achieve the fixed target.
I appeal to the authorities concerned, in general, and the farmers association, in particular, to make sure that an uninterrupted water supply is provided in canals this season.
