KARACHI: National Assembly members of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) denounced increasing activities in Karachi of banned Peoples Amn Committee. They expressed deep concern on rising incidents of bloodshed, demands of extortion money and kidnapping of business persons.

In a statement read on Tuesday, MNAs said incidents of extortion, kidnapping for ransom stopped whenever there was an operation against the banned Amn committee, but as soon as the operation was called off, crime increased.

They said that Karachi was being held hostage by the Peoples Amn Committee and other ancillary groups.

They regretted no action against criminals was allowed to succeed, which has threatened the law and order situation in the city.

The MQM MNA's said criminal elements were trying to overrun the entire city on the strength of sophisticated and lethal weapons. This situation was cause of great concern for the people of the country.

MNAs called lack of effective action against criminals operating in city with impunity as criminal negligence on part of police and other law-enforcing agencies.

They said large number of MQM workers had fallen victim due to criminal negligence. They demanded of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Interior Advisor Rehman Malik, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take action against criminals of banned Amn committee and bring them to book.
