KHAR/LANDI KOTAL, June 7:  Four children received injuries when an explosive device, planted by unidentified persons, went off in Thang Khatta village of Bajaur tribal region on Thursday. Locals said that the children of Thang Khatta village were playing in a field when all of a sudden an explosive device, planted there, went off and injured four children.

The injured children were identified as Bilal, Ayesha Bibi, Salma Bibi and Zahirullah. The residents of the area rushed to the site and shifted the wounded children to Agency Headquarters Hospital. Sources said that two of the injured were in critical condition.

The administration started investigation into the incident. “We are investigating the tragic incident to ascertain as to who had planted the bomb in the field,” an official told journalists.

It merits a mention here that a number of such incidents had occurred in Thang Khatta and its surrounding areas during the last two years, killing and injuring several children.

The residents of the area demanded of the administration to launch a drive for clearing the area of explosive devises.

In Khyber Agency, two persons including a child were injured when mortar shells fell on several of houses in Bara on Thursday.Local sources said that a minor son of Saifal Khan was injured when a stray mortar shell hit his house in Baz Garha, Kamarkhel area. The child was shifted to a hospital in Peshawar.

In Kalanga locality of Akkakhel, Abdul Aziz was injured when a shell fell on his house. A portion of the house was also damaged.

Likewise, houses of Haji Munawar and Baz Mohammad were partially damaged when hit by shells.
