ATTOCK, June 10: It goes without saying that prevailing long hours of loadshedding are affecting the routine civic and business life of the masses severely; however, the menace is a blessing in disguise for some.
Among them are the generator mechanics who are earning a lot of money by repairing the faulty generators.
The use of generators has been on the rise due to power outages for 18 to 20 hours as nobody can survive and perform the routine work without the alternative source of electricity.
A great rush of people is being witnessed at the generator repairing shops in different areas of the city with faulty machines piling up at the shops.
Some of the affected people are of the view that they not only have to bear an extra financial burden in the shape of fuel cost to run them but are also spending hefty amounts on getting the out of order generators repaired.
A local resident Mohammad Arif of Darussalam Colony told Dawn he had been visiting a local generator mechanic’s shop for the last three days in a bid to get his generator repaired that had developed a fault but he had to return dejected as the mechanic had no time.
On the other hand, there are complaints that mechanics are charging from the customers an amount ranging from Rs500 to Rs2,000 for the repair work depending on the nature of the fault.
However, many customers are forced to frequently visit the mechanics because of improper repair of their generators in haste.
A local mechanic near Madni Road Attock explained that eight to 10 generators were being brought to his shop on daily basis, causing the load of work to go up substantially. “Naturally, when the generators run for a longer duration, their ratio of developing faults is also increased,” he explained.
He is presently having two assistants who start work early in the morning and keep toiling till late at night in order to repair the maximum number of faulty generators because every client is in a hurry and wants his generator repaired at the earliest to get relief from the lengthy hours of power outages in the sizzling weather. But they still have to wait at least for two to three days.
