ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary has constituted a nine-member larger bench to hear the controversial ‘memo’ case on Tuesday.

The bench would be headed by the Chief Justice and will comprise of Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Tariq Parvez, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed to hear the constitutional petitions regarding the alleged memo delivered to former US Joint Chief of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen.

The SC registrar’s office also issued notices to the petitioners as well as the Attorney General for Pakistan for the proceedings that start Tuesday.

The commission constituted by the Supreme Court to probe the scandal also submitted its sealed report to the apex court earlier today.

The scandal came to light when Mansoor Ijaz, an American businessman, alleged that Pakistan's former Ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani was behind a memo that accused the Pakistani military of plotting a coup in May and appealed to the Pentagon to help ward it off.

The accusation was followed by Haqqani’s resignation on Nov 22, 2011. The memo commission was formed on 30th December 2011 on the Supreme Court’s directives to probe the scandal.
