Two gunned down over honour

CHARSADDA, June 14: A girl and her cousin were gunned down allegedly by their uncle in an honour-related incident in the Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district on Thursday.

The girl was going along with her cousin to a graveyard in the Matta Mughalkhel village of Shabqadar when their uncle opened fire on them from a car, killing them on the spot. The accused escaped the area after the incident. The police registered the case against the accused.

Meanwhile, the people of Kangra village of Shabqadar restored power supply to their area on their own after the Pesco disconnected it for non-payment of dues.

The villagers angered by the prolonged loadshedding held a rally to protest against Pesco, raising slogans against the Pesco. Later, they started work on the electricity line and restored the power supply. —Correspondent

Use of cellphone on duty

PESHAWAR, June 14: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP has directed all the district police officers to ensure that no constable used
cellular phones during the duty hours otherwise it will be violation of discipline.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, all the DPOs were strictly warned to ensure implementation of the instructions by the police chief regarding use of mobile phone by the policemen deployed at various security checkposts, traffic signals across the province.       

All the DPOs have been asked to submit a consolidated report about those security personnel who were not observing instructions while on duty.

An official said despite the repeated instructions by the IGP the practice continued unchecked which may lead to a security lapse in such critical law and order situation especially in the provincial metropolitan. —Bureau Report

Child dies of ‘measles’

GHALANAI, June 14: A child died and several others were seriously affected as measles broke out in the remote area of Landi Jawara, Koz Gandawo and Babikhel areas of the Mohmand tribal agency.

In the Landi Jawara village of Pandiali tehsil, 30 kilometers of here, a child, identified as Arif, son of Fazli Haq, died and dozens of other children were stated to be in a serious condition as the epidemic attained alarming proportions.

Agency Surgeon Dr Farooq Shah told this correspondent that the health department had sent its staff and medicines to the affected areas to treat the children.

FSMO Dr Shabir Khan said that they had vaccinated the children and vitamin-A capsules were given to 120 children in the Landi Jawara village of Pandiali. “There is no measles case in the area and the child died due to unknown complications,” he said.

CM approves varsity for Karak

PESHAWAR, June 14: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has formally approved establishment of a full fledged university named after Khushal Khan Khattak in Karak.

According to a handout issued on Thursday, the chief minister directed for meeting the entire expenses of the university from the gas royalty of the district.

He said that the private land adjacent to the district jail near district headquarters complex Karak would be used up for the proposed university. He also approved giving additional charge of the project director of the proposed university to
Vice-Chancellor Kohat University Dr Nasir Jamal Khattak. —Bureau Report  

32 shopkeepers arrested

PESHAWAR, June 14: The Peshawar administration on Thursday arrested 32 shopkeepers, including owners of makeshift hotels, and milk sellers, for fleecing consumers.

A statement issued from the office of district coordination officer Peshawar said that during raids in Saddar area 20 milk sellers were arrested for overcharging the customers and using some chemicals in the milk.

The raiding party led by assistant coordination officer Syed Zafar Ali Shah recovered the chemical meant for thickness of the milk and also recovered some fake price lists displayed on the shops.

The administration also ordered action against the leaders of the milk sellers for issuing fake price lists to the shopkeepers.

Similarly, another raiding party led by special magistrate Arifullah Arif arrested 12 shopkeepers during raids at Pando Road and Kohat Road. It was stated that the shopkeepers/owners of tandoors were selling underweight roti. —Bureau Report

Fact-finding body formed

PESHAWAR, June 14: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has constituted a committee to hold fact-finding inquiry in the case of auction of building material of central prison Peshawar.

The committee comprises Bashir Ahmed, section officer (complaints and enquiries) of the home and tribal affairs department and Zeeshan, assistant director (administration legal) directorate of public safety commission, Peshawar.

The committee has been directed to submit the fact-finding report within a fortnight.

Meanwhile, the government has re-enlisted Mohammad Imran and Farooq Rasheed advocates as special public prosecutors in the office of the district public prosecutors, Peshawar.

Likewise, Dola Khan advocate has been enlisted as special public prosecutor, while Intizar Ali Khan and Fazl-ur-Rehman advocates have also been re-enlisted as special public prosecutors in the office of district public prosecutor, Chitral. —Bureau Report
