LAHORE: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Yasin Azad has said that the Arsalan Iftikhar case has been played up to malign the Supreme Court and the judiciary, DawnNews reported.

The SCBA president, in a special press conference in Lahore on Saturday, expressed complete solidarity with Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, urging authorities to act against elements conspiring against the “free judiciary”.

Talking about the case, Azad said that the fact that the Chief Justice had taken action against his own son Arsalan Iftikhar proves that every person is equal in the CJ’s eyes.

Mr Yasin Azad stressed that, following this incident, it was necessary that everyone including the media, politicians, military men and lawyers should be subjected to accountability. He added that, instead of allegations, action should be initiated based on concrete evidence.

The lawyer’s association president also stressed that any institution should not suffer for the sins of one man.

Following the apex court’s verdict, the responsibility of conducting a transparent inquiry rests on the shoulders of the attorney general and the government, he added.
