Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk and Black Widow, the names of these superheroes is enough to get a person to enter a cinema, be it a kid or a grown up. Assemble all of them in one movie and you get The Avengers, which is by far the best superhero flick ever produced! It is the most thought-out movie featuring a superhero since the first installment of Superman nearly 34 years back.

In each Marvel Comic movie released before, the audience received hints to Avengers after the credits had ended, so that they could be prepared for what was to come. The preparation paid off with Joss Whedon’s marvelously directed action thriller in which the world is under Loki’s attack, who had earlier made life hell for his stepbrother Thor, in his own feature film.

The Avengers kick off when the headquarters of covert government outfit S.H.I.E.L.D. is destroyed by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) on his arrival to Earth. He not only enslaves Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) along with many others but also steals The Tesseract — an alien source of pure energy — declaring war on humans.

Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., with the help of Natasha Ramanoff, aka Black Widow, then adopts the ‘Avengers Initiative’ and ends up recruiting Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Thor to stop Loki from subjugating the planet.

The first half of the movie deals with the bonding of The Avengers as most of them fight each other, agree to disagree and hate the very presence of the other man in the suit. But the superheroes bond well when the world is attacked and do the only thing they know — save it from destruction.

All the characters, including those in supporting roles, are well-crafted whereas the witty dialogues and the thrilling script keep you engrossed for the 143-minute run of the entire flick. The action sequences are well-choreographed, and during the movie, the audience gave a thunderous applause, whenever good triumphed over evil.

We all know that Captain America (Chris Evans) struggles to adjust in the new world, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) feels responsible for his brother’s turning evil, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is a highly trained spy, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is a self-obsessed brat, whereas all that Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) knows is to Smash. Despite their shortcomings, these superheroes entertain the audience by fighting with all their might against the evils of Loki, as well as the demons he manages to export from the other side. No other movie since Avatar has used the 3-D C.G.I. technology like The Avengers where you feel like being part of the plan.

As Iron Man says, “I only know one plan – attack!” So go ahead and watch the movie, and you will not regret being part of the movie that saves the universe! — Seema Faruqi
