Woman killed

ISLAMABAD, June 16: A woman was murdered allegedly by her husband over family dispute here on Saturday.

M.A., a resident of Golra allegedly killed his wife by hitting her with a pan. Police said the victim – Z.B. 45, – a native of Lahore, was married to M.A. two years ago, after she got divorce from her first husband.

Later she moved to Islamabad along with her three children but the couple used to have heated debates over the bride’s first marriage. Last night, as they were engaged in the quarrel, the man started beating her. Later he pulled out the frying pan and hit her on head several times. As a result, she started bleeding profusely and was shifted to hospital for medical assistance where she died. — Staff Reporter

Man dies in train accident

ATTOCK, June 16: A man was killed in a train accident near Mehmoodabad railway crossing on Attock-Basal Road on Saturday.

Mohammad Rafqiue was crossing the closed railway crossing on his bike despite the fact that the train was fast moving towards him. He was hit by Attock-bound Khushal Express. As a result, he sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the DHQ hospital by Rescue 1122 but he could not survive. — Correspondent

Protest against power outages

ATTOCK, June 16: Scores of people staged a protest demonstration at G. T. Road against prolonged electricity load shedding on Saturday.

The protesters put the traffic out of gear on the road for about two hours. The desperate residents of various villages of Gondal, Waisa, Rangu, Mullah, Madrota and Shamsabad gathered at the G.T. Road and chanted slogans against the government. On information, Sub Divisional Police Officer Hazro Police circle DSP Syed Akbar Abbass along with other officials rushed to the scene and tried to convince the protestors to end their protest but they refused to do so. However, after assurance of police officials that their concern would be taken up with the authorities concerned, the protestors dispersed peacefully. — Correspondent

Lawyers support CJ

TAXILA, June 16: Lawyers from Taxila and Wah Cantt on Saturday boycotted court proceedings, observed a complete strike and took out a protest rally to express solidarity with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

On the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), the lawyers went on strike and held a rally which started from Judicial Complex and after marching through Faisal Shaheed Road culminated at the main chowk. The protesters were carrying placards and chanted slogans in favour of the chief justice and against Malik Riaz. —Correspondent
