LAHORE, June 16: The Punjab Zakat Council on Saturday authorised district Zakat committees to release Rs98.77 million for grant of education scholarships also for religious seminaries.

The decision was taken at the 139th meeting of the Punjab Zakat Council, presided over by provincial Zakat and Ushr Secretary Capt Jehanzab Khan (retired) on Saturday.

The meeting decided that the district Zakat committees would disburse Rs76 million scholarships among 49,651 students of 991 educational institutions in 28 districts, while Rs28.14 million scholarships among 11,666 students of 91 madaris of 10 districts.
