Couple killed on road

ISLAMABAD, June 18: A couple was killed in a road accident in capital’s rural area on Monday, police said.

The victims – Ghulam Hussain 57, and his wife Perveen Akhter – were going towards Koh-i-Noor Mills from Jhangi Syedan on a motorcycle. As they reached Tarnol, a speeding dumper hit them.

As a result, they fell on the road and suffered critical injuries. The dumper driver escaped from the spot. Later they were shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. — Staff Reporter

‘Outlaws’ arrested

ISLAMABAD, June 18: The capital police claimed to have arrested 24 outlaws including two gangs of robbers and recovered weapons, narcotics and a huge quantity of liquor from them.

A spokesman for police said on Monday that police arrested eight persons during special checking and recovered 2.20 kg of hashish, five wine bottles, 225 liters of alcohol from their possession as they were transporting the consignment to Islamabad from Peshawar.

Likewise, on a tip off, DSP Shahzad Town Arshad Ali Khokhar raided the hideout of robbers which led to the arrest of nine robbers. The police also recovered weapons from their possession who confessed to have committed several robberies in different areas.

The Koral police arrested a bootlegger after a recovery of 20 bottles of wine from him. The Shalimar police nabbed another bootlegger after a recovery six bottles of wine bottles and 192 cans of beer from him.Meanwhile, two other bootleggers were arrested Kohsar police after a recovery of four cans of beer and two bottles of wine bottles from them.

The Bhara Kahu police arrested a drug peddler after recovery of 250 grams of hashish from him. Similarly, the Tarnol police arrested another drug peddler after a recovery of 1.1 kg of hashish and 200 gm of heroin from him. The police also arrested a man after recovery of a 30-bore pistol from him. — Staff Reporter

Police nab swindler

ATTOCK, June 18:  Attock police arrested an alleged swindler and claimed to recover from him the looted valuables on Monday.

Spokesperson for the district police, Malik Javed told the mediapersons here that after lodging of numerous complaints of swindling against a fake ISI Major, police launched an operation to hunt him down.

As a result, the police team traced the accused,   F.H., a resident of Rawalpindi district and later arrested him in a planned operation along with recovery of army uniform, looted jewelry and weapons from him besides a car he had used during the crime activities.

Later police obtained his remand for interrogation during which, the spokesperson claimed, he confessed of his involvement in five similar cases in Haripur district and one in Islamabad in which he had also been declared a proclaimed offender (PO).

It is to mention that the accused had deprived a private school’s principal of his 13-tola gold ornaments worth Rs.7 million and a pistol under the garb of investigation in kidnapping case of Punjab governor’s son, introducing himself as a Major. — Correspondent

Impersonator caught

ISLAMABAD, June 18: An impersonator who, in the disguise of police, robbed people was arrested from Faizabad here on Monday.

Police claimed to recover a police revolving light, forged service card and wireless sets from him.

The impersonator who conducted criminal activities in a Honda Civic was spotted by Superintendent of Police City Mohammad Ilyas during patrolling in the area of Aabpara.

The SP spotted the vehicle with a blue revolving light and on suspicion he started chasing it. Besides, all the patrolling teams and checkpoints were also alerted to intercept it.

The driver succeeded in reaching Faizabad where he was intercepted by the SP when he was about to enter Rawalpindi. — Staff Reporter

AJK gets first women university

MUZAFFARABAD, June 18: AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed on Monday laid the foundation stone of AJK’s first women university in district Bagh.

“In less than a year, we have established three medical colleges and as many universities in the state which shows our commitment to provide quality education to our younger lot,” he claimed.

Mr Majeed also declared that his government would soon introduce a uniform education system across the state, which would be based on a uniform curriculum.

He also reiterated on the occasion that Kashmir issue was the one-point agenda of his party and it could sacrifice everything for the sake of Kashmir and the Kashmiris.

“The PPP was established on the basis of Kashmir dispute and it will never compromise on the basic right to self determination of the Kashmiris”, he hoped. — Staff Correspondent
