LAHORE, June 20: Young doctors on Wednesday continued strike at outpatient departments of the public-sector hospitals and denied treatment to the patients. There were also complaints that a majority of young doctors had withdrawn their services from indoor departments of some hospitals in clear violation of their own agenda. The Young Doctors Association, Punjab, had given a strike call only at OPDs. The YDA leaders had issued a categorical statement that the patients at indoor departments and those getting treatment at ICU, CCU and emergencies will be attended as routine. The sources, however, alleged the striking doctors were not attending the indoor patients to mount pressure on the government. They said the on-duty doctors preferred to stay at their of  fices instead of taking rounds of the wards. Most affected were the indoor patients at Services, Children and Jinnah hospitals as these institutes are said to be the strongholds of the YDA Punjab. The closure of OPDs at hospitals, scorching heat, loadshedding and thin presence of doctors owing to the summer vocation had doubled the miseries of the patients.
