PPP govt gave nothing but loadshedding: Nawaz
MINGORA, June 20: Terming the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Fehmida Mirza ruling case as a success of his party, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has said the PPP-led government’s ‘injudicious behaviour’ towards judiciary backfired.
Addressing a public meeting in Swat valley on Wednesday, Mr Sharif said that his party had been asking Yousuf Raza Gilani to quit as prime minister ever since his conviction by the Supreme Court in the contempt of court case.
He said that Mr Gilani should have resigned after the court verdict but his brazen refusal led him to face embarrassment in the end.
Mr Sharif claimed that the PML-N was the only party which could steer the country out of the present crisis.
“The PML-N will change things and serve the masses as it has done in the past,” the PML-N leader said. Criticising the PPP-led government, the PML-N chief said the people had not voted them to power to create trouble for the country.
“Everyone can now see what has happened to the country under the PPP leadership,” he said, adding: “The Zardari and Gilani duo has given the nation nothing but the gift of over 20 hours’ loadshedding.”
Mr Sharif said that if President Asif Ali Zardari had served the masses he would have earned their support instead of their condemnation. He said the people were fed up with the present rulers and it was time that the government resign and immediately hold fresh elections.
Referring to his party being called a friendly opposition, Mr Sharif said that his party had only focussed on serving the people and had followed the path of reconciliation.
In a veiled attack on PTI chief Imran Khan, Mr Sharif said that there were some politicians who were trying to hijack the youth.
“The young people are aware of the fact that who is honest to Pakistan and who will serve the country in a better way,” he said, asserting that the PML-N during its rule had brought great pride to the green passport.
He said that problems being faced by the country could not be resolved within 90 days as some people claimed. He said that he would steer the country out of the crisis as soon as possible with cooperation of the people.
Describing Mr Amir Muqam, a former federal minister and a close confidant of former dictator Gen Pervez Musharraf, as his brother, Mr Sharif said that his inclusion in the party would not only strengthen the PML-N in Swat but in the entire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”.
Mr Sharif said the public meeting reminded him of old days when he had addressed similar public meetings in Swat in 1996 and 1997 and after these rallies “we swept the elections in Swat”.
Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan attacked Imran Khan without naming him.
“Those who talk about tsunamis all the time are not aware of real politics,” he said, adding that Imran always talked about cricket but he did not know that politics was about serving the people and not about bowling politicians out.
PML-N leader Amir Muqam also addressed the rally. He said that Nawaz Sharif was a harbinger of change and he would change the fate of the masses.
