LAHORE, June 22: Senior journalist Mueen Ahmad of Geo News died of a cardiac arrest while swimming at a local hotel on Friday evening.

Mueen suffered heart attack as he dived into the pool. He was taken to Ganga Ram Hospital but could not survive.

Son of a lawyer, Mueen, 40, had joined The News as a page maker in 1990 when it was about to be launched. He himself was a law student when he joined the newspaper.

He held various positions including subeditor and in-charge business pages of Lahore Desk before joining Geo News in 2008. He was serving Geo News as a senior reporter covering health, education, environment and other beats.

Mueen is survived by his wife and a four-year-old son.

His funeral prayers will be offered at 9am at Masjid-i-Kubra near his house at 253-B, Hasan Market, Boharwala Chowk, New Samanabad.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sense of grief over the death of Mueen and condoled with his family.

Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has also condoled the journalist’s death.
