LAHORE, June 25: Former federal law minister Babar Awan has objected to the presidential ordinance for giving protection to actions taken by the former prime minister saying the “ordinance factory” set up by Pervez Musharraf should be shut down now.

“The practice of issuing ordinances should be discouraged as assemblies are there to decide the issues,” he said while talking to the media at the Lahore High Court on Monday.

Awan also criticised the bill for allowing perks and privileges to the former prime minister saying it was contrary to the Constitution. He said the bill was a personal thinking of the speaker but the president and the prime minister had also endorsed it.

He said the federal and provincial governments were violating the Constitution by not holding local bodies’ elections.

About the implementation of SC decision in the NRO case, Awan said the former prime minister and the law minister had gone and the court could summon the successors now.

On the issue of writing a letter to the Swiss government, he said his written recommendations to the prime minister on the issue could be seen if required.
