KARACHI, June 26: The outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan group has claimed responsibility for the Monday night attack on the offices of the Aaj News TV channel. Two people were injured in the attack.

In a phone call made to the TV channel on Tuesday, a TTP spokesperson said the attack had been carried out because Aaj TV did not give full coverage to the Jihadi movement events and there would be more attacks if proper coverage was not given in the future.

The incident rattled the media industry and organisations representing journalists and owners of media houses have condemned it in strong terms.

Reuters adds: “We had informed the management of Aaj TV to include our view on issues, but the channel had become a mouthpiece of the government,” the TTP spokesman said.

“Geo TV is going to be our next target if they do not change their behaviour towards us. They have been using very bad language against the Mujahideen.”

Aaj TV officials were not immediately available for comment.
