KARACHI, June 27: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the police and other law-enforcement agencies to collect concrete evidence against those being arrested on charges of their involvement in targeted killings and money extortion so that no criminal could go unpunished.

Mr Shah was presiding over a meeting to review the law and order situation here at the CM House on Wednesday.

The meeting was told that some suspected killers and extortionists had been arrested and were being interrogated.

The chief minister said that maintenance of law and order in Karachi was the collective responsibility of the government, police and Rangers. “We have to restore the confidence of the people in general, and traders, businessmen and industrialists in particular.

They ought to have close contacts and frequent meetings with them, listen to their problems and grievances to eliminate the menace of extortion and targeted killings. Karachi is the economic hub of the country and no negligence or carelessness in this regard would be tolerated,” he said.
