KARACHI, June 28: Lack of coordination and communications between the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) and PCB’s Skill Consultant Programme team resulted in the opening day’s proceedings being marred by confusion at the National Stadium on Thursday.

Hundreds of aspirants between the ages of 17-25, who thronged the stadium in a bid to be selected in the open trials conducted under the supervision of former Test cricketers Sarfraz Nawaz, Abdul Qadir and Ijaz Ahmed, gathered in the stadium early in the morning only to find out that the trials would start at 2:00pm.

Sarfraz said he had informed the KCCA over the arrangements that needed to be made for the PCB and KCCA coaches, namely former Test batsman Azam Khan, Shaukat Mirza, Asim Rizvi, video analyst Mohammad Asim and Shakir Khilji.

National Stadium manager Arshad Khan, meanwhile, said that KCCA president Syed Sirajul Islam Bukhari had never informed him about the trials.

Due to the lack of arrangements, the trials on the first day were called off and the five-day programme will now conclude on Monday instead of Sunday. The players are advised to report for trials on Friday.—APP
