RAWALPINDI, June 28: Pakistan Railway police have put security of all major railway stations in the country on high alert.

The steps have been taken in the wake of bomb blast at Sibi train terminal in which four people including a police constable were killed and 15 others injured.

Inspector General of Railway Police Ibne Hussain visited Rawalpindi and Islamabad and directed to beef up the security of Rawalpindi, Chaklala and Margallah Railway Stations.

“We have doubled the strength of police personnel in and around the railway stations to avoid any untoward situation,” said Raja Zaheer Arshad, acting Senior Superintendent of Rawalpindi Division Police.

He said the Railway police IG during meetings asked the law enforcement agencies to keep an eye on the movement of suspicious persons in and around the railway installations.

“IG Railway Police also discussed the situation with Pakistan Railways Chairman and assured him that his men will ensure the protection of passengers and staff of the railways,” he said.

He said the railway chairman told the IG that budget for installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at Rawalpindi Railway station had been approved and as soon as the funds were released they would be handed over to the railway police. He said that the Railway Police IG also allocated Rs300,000 for the police constable who lost his life in the line of his duty at Sibi Railway Station.—A Reporter
