KOHAT/KHAR, June 29: Three militants were killed on Friday after security forces repulsed an attack on a checkpost in Naway Dand area of Thall tehsil in Hangu district, officials said.

They also said three security personnel were injured after militants fired gunshots at them and that they’re under treatment at a local hospital.

Officials said 30 to 40 armed militants attacked the Frontier Corps checkpost in Naway Dand area early on Friday in which three personnel were injured.

They said security forces retaliated leading to an exchange of fire, which killed three militants and injured three security personnel.

Officials said the attackers later fled.

Also in the day, the two soldiers, who died in the bombing of their vehicle in Bara tehsil, were laid to rest in their ancestral villages in Kohat with full military honour.

Senior army officers, relatives and locals attended the funeral of Lance Naik Nawaz Gul, of Sor Gul area, and Sepoy Afzal, of Kamar Dand area, in large numbers.

After burial, a contingent of military men presented the two gun salute, while the people offered fateha for them.

Meanwhile, police on Friday found the burnt body of an unidentified youth in the mountains of Shadikhel area in Kohat.

They said the youth was gunned down by unidentified men before being burnt.

Police first shifted the body to KDA Divisional Headquarters Hospital for autopsy and then buried it at the Tehsil Municipal Committee graveyard.

In Bajaur Agency, militants on Friday blew up a government primary school for girls in Mata Shah area of Salarzai tehsil early on Friday.

Locals said several armed militants entered the building and planted explosives, which went off afterwards.

“The building was badly damaged when the explosives went off,” Habib Khan, a local, told Dawn.

He said the militants fled after the act of terrorism.

The administration said investigation into the blast had been launched and that 30 people had been arrested under the Collective Responsibility Law of the Frontier Crimes Regulation.
