KOHAT, June 30: A local court has awarded death sentence to a man besides fining him Rs25,000 on conviction for a murder.

His accomplice was handed down 10 years jail term and Rs25,000 fine.

During the trial, additional district and sessions judge Ahmad Zia found Ibrar guilty of killing Ayaz Khan with the help of Mohammad Arif.

In another case, the judge convicted two sisters and a man along with his son of smuggling drugs.

Aziza and Kaneeza of Mianwali district and Laiq Shah and his son, Ayaz, of Sadda area in Kurram Agency were awarded the probationary punishment of three years and Rs20,000 fine each.

The four were arrested by Bilitang police.

Meanwhile, the Kohat cantonment police on Saturday began investigation into the alleged kidnapping of a cabbie on the complaint of his wife.

The woman said his husband, Shaukat Khan, had been missing since March 2, 2011 when unidentified people hired his taxi for Fateh Jhang area of Punjab from the main taxi stand of Kohat.

She alleged that Samando, of Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency, led the captors, who had demanded ransom for her husband’s safe release.
