Of elite and poor women of Pakistan

WOMEN in Pakistan, in particular, women in upper and lower districts of Sindh and Balochistan, face a variety of legal, socioeconomic and cultural problems. They are deprived of all fundamental human and constitutional rights. There is also a lack of genuine political will to ensure that girls are given equal access to education in the country, particularly, in rural areas.

Women are regarded as inferior to men and are not expected to have any aspirations. They are in the trap of abject poverty.

On the contrary, the women from elite backgrounds live in comfort, who lavishly and ruthlessly waste money.

I recently had the opportunity to attend two gatherings of elite women; one in Islamabad, where elite women from all ethnic and social backgrounds had assembled, and another in Karachi, where women from elite Sindhi families, wives of Sindhi MPAs, bureaucrats and moneyed business tycoons, had assembled in a five star hotel.

Of course, both the gatherings were arranged by civil society organisations, which have virtually done nothing to improve the conditions of poor women in rural Pakistan.

A community cannot survive when its educated citizens are morally and intellectually bankrupt and decrepit.

I wish wisdom dawned upon these elite women and they dedicated themselves to the poor women and their ailing and
malnourished children in rural Pakistan, particularly in upper and lower Sindh districts.

As a first step, these elite women should donate some of their clothes and other household items to the poor rural women.

COMMENTS

  1. As long as the feudal culture and mindset is supported at higher level not only women but less fortunate will continue to suffer.

  2. A community cannot survive when its educated citizens are morally and intellectually bankrupt and decrepit.

I totally agree and it is increasing day by day. Everyone has gone into such horrible cycles that its impossible to even discuss anything in such cicles. Even if someone tries to live simple life the answer is '' you have depression.'' Even if you talk of simplicity in these circles you are not normal or you dont have money. Even older ladies just laugh and tell you '' hehe i just cant controll myself when it comes to shopping.'' All i want to do is slap such women.
Absurdity of this lavish living noone is willing or able to understand.
Media is playing a very bad role in all this and just glamourizing everyone and educating people to live the wrong way.

Honorable H.A and Mangesh Sird, We all understand that there is a big financial and social gap between the elite class and the poor in our county. Why to blame the WOMEN only ? Are the MEN any different in their attitude and behaviour ? And by the way most of the upper class and upper middle class WOMEN give their used / out of fashion clothes and other accessories to their house maids and servants. Regardless to say that all the charitable organizations and most of the religious institutions run on their donations.
I agree much, much more has to be done to remove poverty from our country specially from the rural areas for which we have to develop of CULTURE of helping each other. We need more people like Mr. Abdul Sattar Eidhi who can come forward and work for the mankind without any personal benefit or gain.

    • The first thing is to get rid our feudal lords and land lords who treat millions of poor people as their slaves in rural areas. Then we need to educate them and give them land of their own to produce food. If we start today, it will take another 20 years to feel the difference.

Well like mostSouth Asian Elites it issad to notice as thereporter depicts thesocialites amongst high Society Matrons indulge themselves inhigh living.
One wouldexpect as they are leaders of culture andcivility ,too they may join their groups to do some real good service to those who are at thebottom of theladder and Women are obviously amongthe poor most oppressed.
