ISLAMABAD, July 3: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday released Director General (planning) Capital Development Authority (CDA) Ghulam Sarwar Sandhu who was sent to Adiala Jail on Monday by the court over contemptuous behavior.

Earlier Justice Siddiqui while initiating contempt of court proceedings against Sandhu had sent him to Adiala Jail when he was staring at the honourable judge out of anger.

Sandhu was facing the contempt of court proceedings for meeting Faisal Sakhi Butt – the alleged virtual lord of CDA – on May 14 despite the restraining orders of the court. The court issued the orders while hearing a land allotment case of Kashmiri migrant Fazal Hussain in which his counsel Niazullah Niazi had alleged that the CDA was being run by Mr Butt.On Tuesday, Sandhu was brought into the court, handcuffed. Justice Siddiqui, however, directed the police to remove the handcuffs. The court then remarked that the government officials must be careful while dealing with the courts.

Raja Amir Abbas, Sandhu’s counsel then tendered his unconditional apology to the court and said the act of pressurising the court in any manner should never be tolerated.

He, however, added that he expected the courts to show grace when an accused had submitted an unconditional apology. He requested the court to provide an opportunity to his client to make amends, which the honourable court accepted.

Meanwhile, the court also took up the petition filed by an advocate, Sadia Rahat, for the recovery of her husband, Naveed Butt, a missing spokesperson of banned outfit Hizbut Tahrir (HuT).

The court directed the police authorities to produce the missing activist by July 16 and said it would not accept any excuse for non-compliance.

Advocate Umer Hayat, petitioner’s counsel told the court that an FIR of the alleged illegal abduction was lodged against the director generals Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI), deputy directors ISI and MI (Lahore) with Liaquatabad police station in Lahore on June 25.

According to the FIR, Butt was abducted by the officials of intelligence agencies on May 11 when he reached his house at Government Employees Cooperative Housing Society in Lahore along with his school-going children.

The FIR said that Butt, an electrical engineer by profession, had been receiving threats from the abductors for a long time.
