SWABI, July 5: Speakers at a prize distribution ceremony of Aman (peace) Cricket Tournament stressed the need for promotion of sports across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to engage youth in constructive activities.
Provincial Minister for Zakat and Usher Zar Shaid Khan was chief guest at the final match of the tournament in which Gaju Khan Club defeated Shahmansoor Club at Yasir Shah Cricket Academy playground here the other day.
Besides, Pakistani cricket star Yasir Hameed was guest of honour on the occasion. Total 32 teams from various districts of the province participated in the tournament, which continued for three months.
The minister said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was focusing on restoration of peace in conflict zones, imparting education to youth and revival of cultural activities besides promotion of local and national games.
“Sports activities provide a best shield which can help youngsters to keep themselves away from negative activities in the best interest of their families and the country,” he said, adding the government would provide sports facilities to people across the province.
He said that work on the under-construction stadium for women in Salim Khan area would be completed soon.
“Sportsmen always advocate for peace. We applaud efforts of all those people and players who work for peace,” said the minister.
Aamir Nawab, member of Pakistan Cricket Board, said that Gohati Stadium and Yasir Shah Cricket Academy playground were facilitating youngsters to learn and play cricket.
Yasir Hameed said that following his remarkable performance in domestic cricket he hoped to regain his position in the national side soon. However, he said it was up to the board to decide about that.
In the end, the minister and Mr Hameed gave away a big trophy to Said Qamar, captain of the winning team.
