LAHORE, July 6: A judicial magistrate on Friday extended physical remand of four young doctors, allegedly involved in the murder case of a minor patient at Mayo Hospital.

Gawalmandi police produced the doctors handcuffed and sought 10-day extension in their remand.

Counsel for the doctors argued that the doctors had been implicated in a frivolous case at the behest of the Punjab government. He said the charges against the doctors were baseless and they were being subjected to political victimization.

The counsel asked the court not to extend physical remand and send the doctors to jail on judicial remand.

After hearing both sides, the magistrate Naqeeb Shahzad extended the remand for further three days and directed the police to complete the investigation.

A large number of young doctors gathered on the court premises in support of their arrested colleagues.

The doctors have been accused of pulling a drip tube needle out from a vein of 15-month-old Fahad Husain which resulted in his death last week.

Police registered the FIR against eight doctors on the complaint of the victim’s father under section 302 of PPC. The doctors produced by the police include Matloob, Usman, Tajammul, and Adil.
