CHITRAL, July 6: Leaders of Muttahida Awami Committee (MAC), Drosh, here have warned to block the road on the occasion of Shandur polo festival if power supply to the town was not restored by repairing Sheshi Koh hydropower station within three days. The power station is run by Sarhad Hydel Development Organisation (Shydo).

Speaking at a press conference here the other day, MAC president Irshad Mukarrar and other office-bearers said that the station supplied electricity to four union councils of Drosh and was commissioned three years ago.

They said that last year filtration tank of the station was partially damaged by floods and Rs20 million was sanctioned for its restoration. However, they alleged that over 90 per cent of the funds were embezzled and no work was carried out on the site.

“The DCO also conducted inquiry, which established that embezzlement had been committed. Afterwards, members of the provincial assembly’s standing committee on power also visited the site,” they said. They claimed that as per inquiry report, less than Rs1 million of the allocated Rs20 million had been used for restoration of the site. —Correspondent
