PESHAWAR, July 8: Unidentified armed persons shot dead an assistant sub-inspector of police on Charsadda Road in the limits of Khazana police station here on Sunday.

ASI Mir Afzal Khan, posted in Bhana Mari police station, was travelling in his Suzuki van along with his two children when assailants attacked him.

He was killed on the spot after receiving several bullets in different parts of his body.

The arm of the driver of the slain police official was also injured in the attack. However, both of his sons remained unhurt in the incident.

Officials of Khazana police station told Dawn that high-ups of the department were holding a meeting and FIR was not registered in the case.

Mr Khan, a resident of Chargano Kallay, was the third victim of attacks on police officials during the last three days.

A police constable Samin Khan and sub-inspector Dad Mohammad Khan were killed in two separate bomb blasts on Friday and Saturday respectively in Peshawar.
