KARACHI, July 9: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is planning to install light-emitting diode (LED) lighting system on Sharea Faisal.
In this regard a meeting was held under the chairmanship of acting KMC administrator Matanat Ali Khan.
The participants in the meeting were briefed on the project being planned under a public-private partnership.
It was noted that Sharea Faisal is an important 16-km-long road with 600 electric poles along it.
Under the proposed plan a contractor will bear all expenses of the project whereas this project will generate revenue of about Rs18 million for the KMC on a yearly basis.
Implementation of this project will help improve traffic flow on the road besides giving it a beautiful look.
Mr Khan told the officials concerned to prepare a comprehensive report on the project so that it could be submitted for approval from the higher authorities.
He said at the moment the LED lighting system was working successfully on important roads of various cities in the world.
He said that if this project proved successful, the LED lights would be introduced on other roads and in big parks of the city.
Trees and greenery along Sharea Faisal would not suffer due to the installation work, he added.—PPI
