2 killed in separate incidents

ATTOCK, July 10: Two persons were killed and eight others injured in separate incidents in different areas of the district.

According to police, Tariq Mehmood, 55, was on his way to Khour village when his motorcycle collided with an oil tanker near Kharibwal village. As a result he died on the spot.

A resident of Mohallah Dhoke Fateh, Attock city drowned while taking bath in Indus river on Monday evening. Moreover, eight persons were seriously injured in a road accident near Chora Sharfi village on Pindi-Kohat road. —Correspondent

Case against policemen

TAXILA, July 10:  The district police officer on Tuesday sent two policemen, including the in-charge of a police station, behind bars after a motorcycle was stolen from the premises of the police station.

Police sources said constable Mohammad Suleman had parked his motorcycle (AKB-1028) in the police station of Jehri Kass in Hassanabdal. However, later the bike disappeared from the premises. The district police officer Attock, Hilal Khan, ordered registration of a case against the in-charge of the police station, Sub-Inspector Azhar Shah and head constable Hassnain Ali and put them in the lock-up of the police station.—Correspondent

14 booked for fraud

ISLAMABAD, July 10: The Margalla police booked 14 persons on the charges of submitting forged documents of property to the courts for bail, police said on Tuesday.

In the first incident, documents of property at a private housing society were submitted to the court of judicial magistrate for the bail of an accused allegedly involved in theft at Humak. The documents were later found forged. In response, the reader of the court, Syed Tahir Bukhari, lodged a complaint with the police which registered a fraud case against four persons.

The police also registered a case against 10 persons on the complaint of a confectionary outlet’s owner.

The complaint said the accused had submitted bogus documents to the court claiming that they had 50 per cent share in the confectionary outlet. —Staff Reporter

Passage of education bill hailed

ISLAMABAD, July 10: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has hailed the passage of the ‘Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act’ by the Senate and hoped that the provincial assemblies will initiate similar legislation for the out-of-school children in the country.

Unesco representative in Pakistan Dr Kozue Kay Nagata felicitated all the senators for approving the multi-party bill for the provision of free and compulsory education to all children of aged five to 16 in Islamabad.

In Islamabad, over 70,000 children are out of school and the ministry of Capital Administration and Development and the Federal Directorate of Education will have to launch special drive and increase their education budget to expand educational facilities in rural areas and urban slums and motivate parents to send their children to schools.—Our Reporter
