Imran Khan: Islamic welfare state
From the Newspaper | 16th July, 2012
THIS is apropos of Salman Munir’s letter ‘Imran Khan on Islamic welfare state’ (July 4).
It is unfortunate that the writer interprets the term ‘Islamic welfare state’ as an antonym of ‘the right to life, liberty, freedom, speech, religion, equal opportunities…’ and went so far as to say that the ‘closest model’ he could imagine was the one run by the Taliban or Saudi Arabia, but he could not remind himself of the first Islamic welfare state established by four pious Caliphs.
We have the heartiest hope in Imran Khan that he would turn Pakistan into a truly welfare state.
