Teenagers drown

CHAKWAL, July 16: Two brothers and one of their friends, all teenagers, drowned in Dhoke Tahlian Dam while bathing, sources said on Monday.

Adil, his brother Adeel and their friend Qasim, residents of Khajula village in tehsil Choa Syedan Shah, went fishing in Dhoke Tahlian Dam.

Adil slipped in the water while attempting to catch fish. As Adeel noticed that his brother was struggling in the water; he also jumped in and tried to save him but unfortunately both got overwhelmed by the water. When Qasim — the third friend — saw that his two friends were missing, he also jumped into the water, in an effort to rescue them but drowned. The villagers rushed to the dam as the news spread like wild fire.

Later, the personnel of Rescue 1122 fished out the bodies. Three of the friends were laid to rest in their ancestral village.— Correspondent

Woman ‘commits suicide’

ISLAMABAD, July 16: A married woman committed suicide by hanging herself with a piece of rope tied to the ceiling of her room here on Monday, police said.

The victim, Minhas Khalil, 23, who was a mother of an infant, allegedly ended her life over a family dispute at Noorpur Shahan. The incident came to light when the in-laws of the victim spotted the hanged body and informed the police. Later the body was shifted to hospital.

The police quoted the victim’s husband as saying that he married her two years ago. Later, she demanded a separate house for living and showed displeasure over living in joint-family system. Over his refusal, he said, they had arguments which led her go desperate.—Staff Reporter

2 killed in separate incidents

CHAKWAL, July 16: Two persons were gunned down in separate incidents while five others sustained serious injuries, police said on Monday.

In the first incident, a man was shot dead and five others including two women were injured in Dhoke Wadhan located in limits of Dhudial police station over a land dispute. In the second incident, a taxi driver was murdered. According to details, some unidentified persons booked the cab of Sajid Gilani, a resident of Bhara Kahu, for Chakwal. On the way, he was gunned down by them. Later, the murderers took away his vehicle after throwing his body near Jaithal village located in limits of Dhudial police station.

Police registered both the cases and started efforts to trace the accused. — Correspondent

Man murders brothers

ATTOCK, July 16: Two men were gunned down by their real brother in an attack that killed one and injured the other over a family dispute in Pattan Kot village of Bahtar police station.

Police said here on Monday that Israr Ahmed allegedly attacked his two brothers Asrar Ahmed and Akhtar Nawaz with a weapon on Sunday evening and later escaped.

As a result, both sustained serious bullet injuries and were immediately shifted to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital Fatehjang. Afterwards, as they were being shifted to a hospital in Rawalpindi due to their critical condition, Akhtar Nawaz died. Police registered murder and attempted murder cases against the accused and were investigating.—Correspondent

Tractor plummets

CHAKWAL, July 16: A man had a narrow escape, while driving his tractor-trolley which fell into a roadside nullah on Monday evening.

Mohammad Asghar a resident of Odherwal village was on his way to load soil from nearby fields on his tractor trolley, when a truck suddenly came in his way, while he was passing by a graveyard situated at Neela Road. Mohammad Asghar tried to save himself from the possible collision with the truck but in the effort lost control and the tractor plummeted into the nullah. While the tractor was overturning, Asghar managed to jump out from the tractor. — Correspondent

18 Ramazan bazaars

RAWALPINDI, July 16: As many as 18 Ramazan bazaars would be established in Rawalpindi from Wednesday for providing subsidised commodities to masses during the month of fasting.

In city and cantonment areas, eight bazaars would be set up that would remain open from 9am to 6pm. Government officials and representatives of market committees would be present in each bazaar for addressing complaints of the shoppers.

District Coordinating Officer (DCO) Saqib Zaffar on Monday while presiding over a meeting said that Punjab government would provide subsidy to Ramazan bazaars while the help of generous people was also a major assistance in establishing the low-price bazaars.

The Ramazan bazaars would be established at Nawaz Sharif Park, Committee Chowk, Haideri Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, Adiala Road, Chungi No. 22, Chor Chowk and Gulzar-i-Quaid.—Our Reporter

DPC chief smell conspiracy

RAWALPINDI, July 16: Difa-i-Pakistan Council (DPC) Chairman Maulana Samiul Haq on Monday warned that the resumption of the Nato supplies to Afghanistan would lead to disintegration of the country.

“The US forces have made a station in Kabul to work on the conspiracy to create unrest in tribal areas and Balochistan. Soon after the opening of Nato supply routes, the drone attacks have intensified in the tribal areas killing innocent people of the country,” he stated this while addressing the press conference on his return from Quetta after the long march.— A Reporter
