LAKKI MARWAT, July 18: Police on Wednesday foiled a bid to blow up a school’s building in Khajakhel area here by defusing two locally made explosive devices.

A police official said the devices were planted in the building of Government Boys Primary School, Kotka Gul Zafar.

He said after learning about explosive devices, police encircled the locality and called the bomb disposal squad, which defused them.

The official said explosive devices weighed 15kg each.

This year, militants blew up several schools, both for girls and boys, in the district, while police saved many from destruction by defusing explosives on the premises before their explosion.

Also in the day, Khyber Afghan Club beat Lakki Young XI Club in the District Club Football Tournament here.

District Football Association organised the event in which 24 local teams participated.

District coordination officer Nisar Ahmad and district sports officer Shafqatullah Khan supported organisers.

The final match played on Mujahid Ground was watched by a large number of locals.

Players of both teams made several attempts to score goal in the first half of the match but the success remained with Lakki Young XI Club whose forward kicker Taqeer scored a goal in the seven minute of the match.

Hanif of Khyber Afghan Club leveled the score in the last minutes of the match.

Later, Khyber Afghan Club won the match 4-3 on penalty kicks.

District Football Association president Johar Mohammad Khan, who was the chief guest on the occasion, distributed trophies and cash prizes to players.
