KARACHI, July 18: At least 12 more people, including a policeman, were killed in separate gun attacks in parts of the city on Wednesday.

Two policemen were targeted by unknown suspects within the remit of the Pak Colony police station, SSP (west) Amir Farooqui said.

He said that constables Sohail and Shafqat were passing through a locality of Pak Colony when unknown assailants attacked them with firearms in front of the Bismillah Hotel.

They were rushed to the Civil Hospital where constable Sohail succumbed to his wounds and Shafqat was provided treatment, he said, adding that the victims were posted at the Pak Colony police station but were in civvies when attacked.

The police said they believed it was not an incident of random shooting. “It seems that the assailants were following them and they shot the policemen at a place of their choice,” a police officer said.

The profiles of the both the victims were being checked to ascertain a possible motive behind the attack, the police said.

Sohail was stated to have taken an active part in the 1992 Karachi operation.
