Our media hasn't done anything for the young children. Look at the ratio of programs for children vs adults… it's almost 0:100, while there is a huge number of children watching TV… this is why our youngsters know the characters from the west and the bollywood actors, but not our own.

There is no doubt ECE helps children succeed in later years (even as adults). The USA had a program called Operation Head Start. These programs do help children jump ahead. Young children should sit together in groups of four to six to help each other learn and to experience working with others.
Anything spent on Early Childhood Education will be well worth the money.

Great job by the Indians and Punjab government. I hope parents realize that schooling isn't all about studies (although it is also very important), just getting a proper free lunch, immunizations and the chance to spend their social time productively is also beneficial to society – it deters low-income kids from getting into crime, dangerous activities like drugs and instills an incentive to go to school. As far as literacy and numeracy goes, I think Jugnoo Sabaq should be introduced in all primary-level government schools here, not just for children but also for illiterate adults (especially women).

Good to know that Pakistan if also focussing on basic education among children. We have obseved that a litrate thinks logically & not enagged in unsocial activities. Specially female child should be litrate as they increase awerness among whole family once she understands importance of education.
India has to go long way on this diection as I know various places in India yet this initiative has not started. It is not government who can spark but common people in society should come forward & this can be anybody.

Writer forgot to mention what we need to learn from this model and how. the model he was portraying was to show overworked folks at the centers, lot of documentation, and dozen kids sowing up against entollment of 30. looks like no one edits these kinds of postings @ DAWN that deviate from the subject and there was nothing to sum up in the final paragraph. poor ending of the writeup……
