Feud claims three lives

KOHAT, July 20: Three people, including a woman, were killed and two injured in firing over a family dispute in Jaro Ghundi area of Hangu on Friday.

The police said armed men entered a house and opened indiscriminate fire at the inmates, killing 40-year-old Amna Bibi, Gul Hussain Shah and Jameel, and injuring Akhtar and Moin Shah. The injured were shifted to a local hospital. The accused managed to escape from the scene. The Doaba police registered case against the accused nominated by the injured and launched investigations. —Correspondent

Three of family shot dead

BANNU, July 20: Three members of a family were shot dead and two others wounded as armed men sneaked into a house on Thursday night and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates. Owner of the house, Gul Niaz, a rickshaw driver, his wife and a son were killed on the spot while anther son and daughter received injuries.

The local people of Meerakhel tribe put the bodies on the Dera-Bannu road on Friday in protest against the gory incident and closed the road for traffic. They were demanding arrest of the killers. —Correspondent

Three killed in Mardan

MARDAN, July 20: Three persons, including a minor girl, were killed in separate incidents here on Friday.

Abdur Rehman, in his 30s, committed suicide after exchanging hot words with his father in Mirwas village.

In the second incident, an eight-year-old girl was killed when a car driven by a woman hit her on the Eastern bypass that was opened by the chief minister a few days back.

In yet another incident, a truck rammed into a mosque in Takht Bhai after it went out of the control of the driver, killing a man who was coming out of the mosque. —Correspondent

Deteriorating law & order

PESHAWAR, July 20: PPP-S Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Sikandar Hayat Sherpao has expressed grave concern over the soaring prices of daily use commodities and deteriorating law and order situation.

He asked the government to take immediate steps to control the prevailing political and economic crises in the province. He was addressing a public gathering at Sreekh Kili in Shabqadar on Friday, where scores of ANP activists joined PPP-S. Mr Sherpao said ‘flawed’ policies of the rulers had worsened the crises, adding the government had failed to improve the living standard of people. —Bureau Report

Jail for murder convict

KOHAT, July 20: The additional district and sessions judge on Friday awarded 35 years imprisonment to an accused in a murder and attempted murder case.

The judge Nusrat Yasin awarded 35 years in prison to Maqsood Shah, ordered the release of another accused, Tahir Shah, due to absence of evidence against him, and declared the third one, Daud Shah, as proclaimed offender. The judge ordered the police to arrest the proclaimed offender and present him before the court as early as possible.

These people had killed Mewa Shah, Akhtar Shah and Rehana Bibi inside their home over a petty dispute in mohalla Behram Khan in Jungle Khel in January 2011. —Correspondent

Price hike in Ramazan

PESHAWAR, July 20: Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs Department Mohammad Azam Khan has directed all the commissioners and district coordination officers to control the prices of essential commodities, fruits, vegetables in the month of Ramazan.

He directed the officers to convene meetings of the price control committees by involving all the stakeholders, representatives of the traders’ unions to set the prices in access of the common man. The home secretary, in a communiqué, directed that all the price magistrates should ensure checking of prices in the markets/shops twice/thrice a day in the areas under their jurisdiction to overcome the illegal profiteering and hoarding. —Bureau Report

Traders observe shutter down

LANDI KOTAL, July 20: Traders at Jamrud market on Friday pulled down their shutters and blocked the main road for some time after local administration arrested their colleagues on charges of profiteering.

Officials, however, contended that the action against some fruit and vegetable vendors and owners of some general stores was taken after they received complaints from the people about the increase in prices of edibles and essential daily use commodities. About eighteen shopkeepers were briefly detained and were released after payment of fine. The traders argued that the administration had not yet provided them with an agreed price list. —Correspondent

Official’s house looted

MARDAN, July 20: Burglars took away 29-tola gold, two pistols, one motorcycle, millions of rupees cash and other valuables from the house of an inspector of excise and taxation department in daytime here the other day, police said while quoting FIR of the case.

Registering FIR with Saddar police station here, Abid Khan, son of excise inspector Fida Mohammad Khan, said that three unidentified armed men barged into their house at around 1:00pm on Thursday and after locking all members of his family in a room at gunpoint, took away gold, cash and other valuables.  The Saddar police have started investigation in the case. —Correspondent

Water supply schemes

LAKKI MARWAT, July 20: PML-N MPA Munawar Khan Marwat has said all the newly installed water supply schemes have been made functional before the start of Ramazan to enable the residents of rural localities to get clean drinking water.

Speaking at a public meeting in Mela Shahaabkhel on Friday after inaugurating Tariq Mehmood water supply scheme, he said he didn’t believe in political vengeance, adding with the tube-wells having been made operational the rural population would get clean water getting rid of diseases caused by contaminated water. —Correspondent

Security for Ramazan

PESHAWAR, July 20: Police claimed on Friday to have adopted effective measures for protection of the people during Ramazan.

Talking to media persons at Malik Saad Khan Police Lines here on Friday the Capital City Police Officer Peshawar Imtiaz Altaf said police would also be deployed in plainclothes at all sensitive places. He said police would continue round the clock patrolling and checking of suspected people on all the roads and check points. Besides, he said security in the bazaars would also remain tightened.

Meanwhile, police conducted body search of the suspected persons before the Friday prayer. —Bureau Report
