ISLAMABAD, July 21: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that he will contact all political leaders to solicit their views on matters of national importance at an `appropriate time’.

“All political leaders are pro-Pakistan and genuinely desire that the country should march on a trajectory of peace, prosperity and stability under a strong democratic system,” he told APP at the PM House on Saturday.

In reply to a question, the prime minister said he would not hesitate for a moment to consult the political leaders on any issue of national importance.

He said the politicians know the `art of the possible’ and added that the recent unanimous appointment of the chief election commissioner was a manifestation of their acumen and commitment to the democratic process.

“Together we will overcome the challenges with the same spirit in future as well,” Mr Ashraf said.

He said the politicians had learned from history and they were not going to repeat the mistakes committed in the past.

Terming political continuity of paramount importance, the prime minister said it was vital to achieve political stability because it would also ensure economic prosperity and social integration in the country.

He said democracy was strong and stable in the country because people were fully convinced that solution to all ills was in pursuing a strong democratic set-up.

He said the edifice of democratic dispensation was fortified by a robust civil society, free media and assertive human rights organisations.

He said all stakeholders believed that solution to people’s problems lay in strengthening democracy. He said the days of usurping people’s rights had gone.
