Youth commits suicide

RAWALPINDI, July 22: A young man killed himself by jumping in front of a passenger train near Rahimabad (Chaklala) on Sunday, police said.

Imran Masih, 29, had been in distress after doctors informed him that he was at the last stage of Hepatitis-C and needed a large sum of money for treatment of the disease.

Police quoted his family as saying: “Since he knew about the reaction of the medical treatment, he plunged into distress and used to say that it would be better to die than live a miserable life.”

On Sunday, he put his purse, ID card and cellphone on a table in his room and left the house. Later, he jumped in front of a Karachi-bound passenger train.

A few hours later, his family was informed that Imran Masih had died after being hit by a passenger train.

Earlier, the police could not identify the victim as nothing was found on his body parts, but later his family reached the District Headquarters Hospital and identified him. —  Staff Reporter

Man dies in accident

CHAKWAL, July 22: A motorcyclist was killed while his friend sustained serious injuries when a car hit them at Chakwal- Sargodha Road near Kallar Kahar, police said on Sunday.

Shakil Ahmad, a resident of Kallar Kahar was traveling on his bike along with his friend when a speeding car hit them.

Both friends were rushed to the hospital where Shakil succumbed to his injuries. Kallar Kahar police registered a case and started efforts to trace the driver of the car who managed to escape from the scene. — Correspondent

Police officials punished

ATTOCK, July 22:  District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Hilal Khan issued show-cause notice to 11 police constables posted in the police lines for remaining absent.

A police spokesman said during the checking, the DPO found the constables absent. On query, the in-charge of the police lines could not explain the justification for the absence of the officials.

Meanwhile, Muharar Hasanabdal Sadder police station, Mr Kamran and assistant Muharar Mohammad Suhail were removed from the posts on the charge of misconduct.

Moreover, the DPO also directed the SHO Attock City to ensure presence of constables around mosques and other places during Taraveeh. — Correspondent

Eleven arrested

RAWALPINDI, July 22: Police in a crackdown against the lawbreakers on Sunday arrested 11 accused, including nine youngsters who were found doing a wheelie and driving rashly.

The Waris Khan police also impounded eight motorcycles from them whereas the Jatli police claimed to have netted two accused and recovered illegal weapons from their possession. — APP
