QUETTA, July 22: A senior Food Department official was gunned down in Basima area of Washuk district on Sunday, officials said.

“Assistant food controller Abdul Qadir came under attack when he was on his way home in Basima,” Washuk Deputy Commissioner Saeed Jamali said, adding the attackers sprayed a volley of bullets on Mr Qadir before fleeing the scene. Mr Qadir received multiple bullet wounds and died while being taken to hospital.

The law-enforcement personnel cordoned off the area and, according to sources, some suspects were taken into custody. The police said the motive for the murder was not immediately clear.
