KARACHI: A British tabloid has allegedly uncovered a visa scam involving Pakistan's Olympic contingent.
According to the investigation, a group of travel agents and politicians are involved in the scam which allows anyone to travel with the Pakistani contingent as support staff if they pay a certain amount of money.
Fake passports, travel documents, a visa for two months and a letter from the Pakistan Sports Board claiming that the person is part of Pakistan's Olympic support staff can all be arranged for around one million Pakistani rupees (7000 pounds), it was reported.
Abid Chodhary, the politician and Dream Land travel agency were allegedly involved.
The British and Pakistani authorities have been notified. Pakistan's advisor to the Prime Minister on interior, Rehman Malik, said that the relevant people have been informed and will be looking into the matter.
Malik has formed a joint investigation team to investigate the scam.The team would include officials from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The Director General (DG) FIA would head the investigation team.
Eight employees of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) have been suspended and Chairman Nadra Tariq Malik has has ordered inquiry into the matter.
Meanwhile, a Pakistani official, while talking to DawnNews, rubbished the story as an attempt to discredit Pakistan. He also added that it was not possible for anyone to sneak in as part of Pakistan's contingent as there were proper checks conducted and a lot of documentation required.

Very well said, the same dilemma is faced by Indian leaders. They are confused about with whom to talk, whom to trust and who is incharge. Is it the ISI chief, the army chief, the president or the prime minister? Nobody takes responsibility of the:
1. Passports issued by their government (e.g. to Abu Jundal),
2. Their own citizens (e.g. Kasab, Hafiz, etc)
3. Their own diplomats.
4. Their own army personal found in India.

This exposure will further tarnish the image of this Islamic Republic of Pakistan. However, they can avoid the damage if the minister concerned is sacked/kicked out and his name be put on the Exit control list along with those concerned.But, such sort of timely action can't be done. When you have a basket of rotten eggs, it is difficult to even think to sort out even those partly rotten. Because rotten eggs are never rotten partially.
Such harsh words fall short of some more to condemn criminal activities, knowing as we do that it will create problems for those otherwise simple citizens to travel internationally. People may even doubt about the diplomatic passports of your government. For my satisfaction, please at least check the passport of the minister concerned and the functionaries under him to give confidence to the other countries for the sake of this beautiful country and the equally beautiful people of Pakistan.
Looking to the recent scandles of some of the nasty cricketers, I say those proven guilty must go to jails irrespective of positions or party affiliations. I write these comments because those of our brother living abroad in the USA, Canada, UK and even those going for Hajj have to face the 'ear-poisoning -music ' on such revelations which most of those inside may not know. And, these are my personal views subject to the miscreants being proven guilty as per the law.

Don't you think that Rehman Malik is root cause of all the problems. Just think that his entire existence is based on crisis management. He would never get any lime light if there is no crisis to manage. Let's take a look at the number of committees he formed and find out the results of those committees. What is average cost and duration of those meetings and what are the results. This is not rocket science but someone needs to think that what is the cost and benefit of keeping Rehman Malik or any special advisor in his job if all the decisions are on ad hoc basis. He would never make any process so that the next oerson's job in his position will be a better fit to the growing needs.

Its the same method which Pakistanis use to get student visas for UK and Canada.Students pay 1% of the bank statement amount to broker who prepares verifiable fake bank statements.Once the bank statement requirement is furnished the applicant easily get the student visa.Its very normal and happening in Pakistan since many years now.

Since the news is not fully confirmed - its considered meaningless. We are used to these media hypes as there is no honest leadership at top level and everyday we come across real or make up stories like these to tarnish the image of our targeted nation. Besides this, under cover people from other countries are coming over to Pakistan and settling in without any problems or issues. They all have fake names and ID's - why are they not been questioned or part of publications ?
This is the holy month of Ramadan and what image are we creating for this nation - the least we can do is to uncover this plot and if anyone is found guilty, he should be severely punished. England, of course is not a go to place specially in recession - you never know that the 7K Pounds are being shared by both ends. Maybe Middle Eastern countries would be a much better option.
Its time that someone steps up and take charge, enhance and upgrade the national image and provide relief to the sufferings of the nation - may God bless the new leadership - amin

Even if this story is true ,it is only for a few thousand pounds. That does not make it morally right and it gives the western media another chance to malign Pakistan. However it should be put into context. Recently it has been discovered that the Americans and British banks have been wrongly selling insurances and mortgages and making billions of us dollars in profit but no body can prosecute them as they deal in billions of dollars and bring in billions of dollars and pounds to their governments in taxes.

This news is literally very sad, but i want to tell you that now these guys are too much in making up. How can you get into olympics without being renown athlete first? There are thousand legitimite athletes are sititng in world who can't make to olympics just becuase they are not very good in sports and can't qualify for olympics, so how can any XYZ can be part of olympic team by just holding fake passport? Secondly, British High comission can't grant visa on the basis of forged document. Here i only see is you can have Fake Passport by bribing officials, which is true, but adding olympic story and creating extra buzz does not extend any sense to me.

This is nothing new..it has been happening in the past in every field..sports is no exception..this is only a small story which has been uncovered..there are many such cases which go unnoticed and many people who are considered "gentlemen" and "clean" in the circle of showbiz, politics (the prime example), sports etc. are all involved in this as it provides them extra income. Talha, countries are not blaming Pakistan, they trying to 'avoid' you.
Its a writing on the wall. Your best friends have become yours foes and you have not taken a single step to soothe your soured relationships with the enemy countries, in nut shell you are pretty alone guys !!!! Wake up neighbors !!
