MIRAMSHAH, July 23: Ten people died when a US drone fired a barrage of missiles into a suspected compound in Derry Nashter village of North Waziristan on Monday night, official sources said.

They said that eight missiles were fired into the compound, about 65km west of Miramshah.

It could not be verified from independent sources whether the dead were civilians or militants. However, the Shawal area where the village is located near the Afghan border is known as hotbed of militants.

Derry Nashter has come under drone attacks several times in the past.
