LAHORE, July 23: The Lahore chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association has demanded quashing a murder case registered against four young doctors of Mayo Hospital, following the death of a baby.

In a statement issued on Monday, a PMA spokesman said there was no justification for continuing criminal proceedings against the accused doctors after declaration of complete autopsy report of baby Fahad in which it had been proved that it was a natural death.

He said during investigation it had been established that the FIR against the doctors was lodged just on ‘assumptions’ and ‘political grounds’.

The spokesman clarified the four on-duty doctors in their statement to police had stated that the child was suffering from heart disease (congestive cardiac failure) and was brought to the emergency in a critical condition. The doctors had apprised the parents about the child’s condition and counseled them too. They told the investigators that no drip of the baby or any other patient was removed by any doctor.

The criminal action against on-duty doctors without involving the Punjab Health Care Commission was also an illegal step, the spokesman said. — Staff Reporter
