PESHAWAR, July 23: Suspected militants attacked a police post in Sheikhan area in the limits of Badhber police station on Monday morning.

An official said that militants opened firing on the post with light and heavy weapons from different directions but police had also taken cover after receiving some tips from their informers.

The attack, he said, was carried out from tribal area but the attackers came so close to the post that they could use light weapons. However, police managed to repulse the attack by opening firing with the available machineguns.

The official said that it was not the first attack of its kind. He said that police had repulsed many such attacks in the recent past. He said that government should increase manpower and provide proper arms and ammunition to them so that they could take timely action to protect Peshawar. — Bureau Report
