Dispute claims life

PESHAWAR, July 23: A dispute over water distribution claimed life of a youth at Masho Khel village in suburbs of Peshawar on Monday.

An official of the Badhber police said two families had developed differences over the distribution of water from a local tube-well and neither side was ready to budge. The people, he said had exchanged hot words on Sunday and had warned each other.

On Monday morning, he said a youth Humayun Khan, son of Muhib Khan of Mashokhel, was shot dead by someone while he was on way to his agricultural fields. A complainant, Shah Nazar, relative of the deceased, nominated three people, including Niaz Ahmed, Muazam and Azam for being involved in the murder of Humayun.

The police registered case against the accused and further investigation was underway.—Bureau Report

Landslide victim laid to rest

KOHAT, July 23: A victim of landslide in Gayari sector of Siachen was laid to rest in Tappi area of Kohat on Monday.

The body of sepoy Abid Naveed was found during excavation of the landslide and shifted to Kohat. He was laid to rest with full military honour in his ancestral graveyard.

Meanwhile, DSP Gul Raees Khattak died of cardiac arrest during duty on Monday. He was serving in Frontier Reserve Police, Kohat. His body was taken to his ancestral village of Takht-i-Nasrati for burial.

Meanwhile, the political administration of frontier region of Kohat arrested a proclaimed offender during search operation on Monday.

The accused, Qaiser Khan, wanted by Mardan police, was arrested by the political administration in a targeted operation from tribal Darra Adam Khel town.—Correspondent

69 arrested in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, July 23: Police claimed on Monday to have arrested 69 alleged criminals and recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession during raids in different localities in Peshawar on Monday.

A police spokesman said some of the most wanted proclaimed offenders included, Khalid Khan of Mohalla Tawoos Khan Swabi, Abdul Malik of Faqirabad, Zafar, Mustaqim of Sarband and Waheed of Hangu. The police also recovered 27 pistols and 411 cartridges of various kinds from them.

The police said the outlaws had been arrested during operation in limits of different police stations. Cases against the accused were registered.—Bureau Report

Lakki locality without water

LAKKI MARWAT, July 23: Residents of Mohallah Haqdad Abad are faced with acute shortage of drinking water over the last couple of weeks. But the tehsil municipal administration has not taken any step so far to ensure supply of water to the posh residential area of Lakki city.

It has been learnt that the water supply scheme of Tanchi office could not run because its electricity transformer was out of order.

Amid high temperature in the holy month the water shortage has worsened in the urban locality,” said a resident, adding bigwigs of the civic body turned deaf ears to several requests by area people for repairing the faulty transformer.

He said residents were compelled to buy water for drinking and other purposes.

The residents demanded immediate repair of the out of order transformer attached to the tube-well.—Correspondent

‘Wrong injection’ kills boy

LANDI KOTAL, July 23: A four-year-old boy died in local hospital on Monday after doctors injected him some high dose anti-malaria medicine.

Sources said Hasnain, suffering from fever, was examined by Dr Fazal Raziq at his private clinic despite being on duty at the agency headquarters hospital. “Then the boy was asked to come to the casualty department of the hospital,” said Taj Ali, father of the child. He said as soon as a drip, with some injections added to it, was administered to his son, the boy died instantly.

Taj Ali and other relatives lodged a serious protest with the medical superintendent of the hospital.

Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot dead a trader, Shah Wali Sikandar, in Jamrud.

In Akkakhel, a young boy was mistakenly killed and another injured when activists of a local peace committee mistook them for militants.—Correspondent

Repair of road demanded

LAKKI MARWAT, July 23: Elders of several villages have demanded of the government to provide funds for repair dilapidated Lakki-Shahbazkhel road.

In a joint statement, they said this road linked several villages and hamlets, but it was full of potholes causing nuisance to the villagers and transporters.

The elders said that the authorities concerned paid no heed to maintenance of the road during last several years. They said that residents of Mela Shahabkhel, Langerkhel, Begukhel, Naverkhel, Zangikhel, Mela Mandrakhel, Shah Hasankhel, Illawalkhel, Jhangkhel and other villages had been facing numerous problems due to poor condition of the road.—Correspondent

Pranab Mukherjee felicitated

PESHAWAR, July 23: The Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan has felicitated Pranab Mukherjee on becoming the 13th president of India and has hoped that he would try his level best to enhance his country’s cooperation with Pakistan. In a statement issued from Bacha Khan Markaz on Monday, Mr Wali Khan said the victory of Mukherjee in the presidential polls will open new era of friendship.

In a letter sent to the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad, he said the dream to see prevalence of peace in the region without the participation and efforts of Pakistan and India will never come true and urged for aggressive and coordinated campaign to do away with militancy that had plagued the region from the past three decades.

It was in the interest of both the countries to strive for peace in the region; he said and added that series of dialogue should continue to bring the residents of both the states closer to each other.—Bureau Report

Torture of clerk condemned

LAKKI MARWAT, July 23: All Employees Coordination Council, Lakki Marwat, has threatened to block Lakki-Tajazai road to protest against the local administration’s failure to arrest a man who allegedly tortured a head clerk of education department.

In a meeting here the other day, the council president Jehangir Khan said that the administration had failed to ensure safety of government servants in the district.

The council representatives said that despites passage of 10 days the police did not take any action against the young man who allegedly attacked education department’s head clerk Haji Amanullah Khan in his office.

They warned that the employees would block Lakki-Tajazai road in front of the district headquarters complex if the culprit was not arrested.—Correspondent
