RAWALPINDI, July 24: The superintendent of police, Central Jail Adiala, and other staff concerned were booked by the Saddar Barooni police on charges of keeping an Azerbaijani woman in illegal confinement for more then 24 days, police said.
The incident might have been hushed up by the jail authorities and the police officials had Fazale Rabbi not filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court on behalf of the victim seeking orders for registration of a case against the SP and his staff.
According to the police, Rukhsana Bibi alias Marya Bibi, wife of Mohammad Imran, a resident of sector I-10/1, complained that the SP of Adiala jail and his subordinates had illegally detained her in the jail from June 19 to July 14.
Following the petition, the Saddar Barooni police on Monday registered a criminal case against the jail authorities and sent a report to the court.
However, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
When the SP Saddar circle, Waheedur Rehman Khattak, was contacted, he said the police had registered a case against the officials and sent the report to the court.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the foreign national woman had married a suspected car thief. She had also allegedly been an active member of the gang.
She was arrested by the Islamabad police anti-car lifting cell in-charge sub-inspector Lal Deen for allegedly working as an active member of a gang involved in car lifting, and under the foreign act for illegally staying in the country.
Her arrest was made by the Sabzi Mandi police on June 2, 2012, and later she was sent to the jail.
