PESHAWAR, July 24: Muzhda Subhan, a pre-medical group student of Jinnah College for Women (JCW), has set a record by securing 1,019 marks of total 1,100 marks and top position in FA/FSc examinations held under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Peshawar. The board announced the names of position-holders in a ceremony on Tuesday and detailed results would be released today (Wednesday).

The overall top three positions went to the pre-medical group, according to the results. Saba Noor got second position with 1,018 marks and Mishal Shahab stood third with 1,014 marks. Both are also students of Jinnah College for Women (JCW), University of Peshawar.

Ms Subhan has also topped the recently-held Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) test for admission to medical colleges.

According to the board officials, the top 20 positions were shared by 36 students, including only two boys.

The pre-engineering group was also topped by a JCW student Saamia Rahman, who got 989 marks. She was followed by Islamia College Peshawar students Mohsin Khan (979 marks) and Saad Saud Jan (976 marks) for second and third position, respectively.

The JCW students also bagged the top three positions in general science/computer science group. Ms Sidra topped the group with 946 marks, while Rimsha Shabir and Farah Iqbal were declared second and third by obtaining 936 and 930 marks, respectively.

In humanities group the top three positions went to girl students, as Wajeeha Riaz topped the group with 931 marks. Ramina Majid and Farhana secured second and third positions with 889 and 886 marks, respectively.

Overall, a total of 43,687 students appeared in the intermediate examinations of which 30,224 were declared passed.

In the pre-medical group, 9,957 students appeared in the examinations of which 8,745 (87.83 percent) were declared successful. Similarly, of the 7,516 students of pre-engineering group 6,565 (87.35 per cent) were declared passed.

The pass percentage in humanities group was 55.55 per cent as of total 22,547 students 12,525 were declared successful. Of 3,093 students in the general science group, 2,271 passed the examinations.

The results were announced at the award ceremony arranged for the position-holders here at the BISE, Peshawar. Provincial Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Sardar Hussain Babak was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Babak praised the position-holders, saying that despite many challenges they showed excellent results. He said that the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was improving and the presence of militants had been decreasing with each passing day.

The minister, however, said that the militant mindset still existed in the society, which could be defeated only through education. He said that donors like DFID, European Union, Norwegian government etc would provide an aid worth Rs42 billion to the province for infrastructure development, teachers’ training and other projects in the education sector.

Chairman of the board Prof Mohammad Shafi also spoke on the occasion.
